Personal Goals Made Easy
May 13, 2011 1 Comment
We all have personal goals. We have personal goals to be wealthier, fitter, happier. The problem is not in the fact that we know we have amazing things we want to achieve, it’s usually that the means we choose to achieve our personal goals is flawed.
Surely by this point in your life you have tried goal setting in some shape or form. Maybe you wrote down you personal goals, and even made the next step in building yourself some sort of plan to achieve them. But what happened next?
You lost motivation. You gave up. You became frustrated with your perceived lack of progress. And those big, glistening personal goals were thrown back up on the shelf to collect dust.
I am here today to break some startling news to you. The reason that you bombed with your personal goals isn’t because you didn’t want them enough. And it’s not because you aren’t worthy of achieving them.
The reason you’ve failed with your personal goals is because the way you were going about setting your goals and going after them was wrong.
But isn’t goal setting just writing down what you want and going after them? No. Just like playing football isn’t as simple as just throwing a football into the endzone. There are skills, tactics and strategies to goal setting that can dramatically boost your odds of personal success.
Don’t know them? It’s not your fault. After all, we aren’t taught these secrets to setting high-performance personal goals as kids. There is no class in school teaching the stuff. And the few who do learn it, stumble across it almost by accident.
Here are a handful of these strategies to setting personal goals that I want to share with you. Afterwards I am going to tell you a little bit about a resource that can help you take these skills and take them to the next level.
#1. You Refuse to Accept Failure. This is the most glaring mistake I see with the people I coach. Once they have a plan made up to achieve their personal goals, it is set in stone. Any deviation from this plan, any setback or failure that comes their way makes the whole plan useless. I cannot count how many times I have seen people throw away their personal goals because of a refusal to accept adversity.
#2. You are Phrasing Your Goals Wrong. Whenever I ask someone what their personal goals are, they invariably say something along the lines of, “I really want to be rich.” They desire something so vague and hazy that it is impossible to achieve. What is rich, after all? Our definition of the word can change by the day. Pick an exact sum or figure and give yourself a clear target to aim at.
#3. You’re Intimidated by Your Personal Goals. There are two reasons that this happens. First, you haven’t split up your goal into smaller, more realistic chunks yet. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Which segways perfectly into the second reason—your personal goals, and the journey to achieve them, must start today. This means having a part of your personal goals quest that you can start with today, if not right now. Don’t fall prey to “someday syndrome.”
Now that you know about these three personal goals mistakes people just as deserving to achieve them as you are make, take the next step and learn about the ultimate tool to achieve your personal goals at YourGoalBook.com. It will guide you step-by-step from the very beginning and show you exactly what you need to give yourself the highest possible chance at succeeding with your personal goals.
